Powerman Alsdorf 2026: World champions and hundreds of amateurs set to compete in the European Championships

At Powerman Alsdorf in Germany on Sunday, 12 April 2026, the organisers are delighted to welcome both reigning world champions in duathlon: Baptiste Domanico from France in the men’s event and Germany’s Merle Brunnée in the women’s. “Their participation and the exciting line-up of elite athletes speak to the high standing of Powerman Alsdorf. We are equally delighted to welcome hundreds more athletes, with registration for this major event still open. Anyone wishing to run and cycle in a special setting is warmly invited,” says race director Patrick Thevis from the organising Marathon-Club Eschweiler.

A highlight this year is the hosting of the European Duathlon Championships, which once again puts Alsdorf in the international spotlight following the meticulously organised Powerman events of previous years. With over 750 participants from 23 nations registered so far, the event is set to be a true sporting highlight in the very west of Germany. In addition to the battle for the European Championship titles in the professional and amateur age groups, the German Duathlon Championships will also be decided in Alsdorf.

There will definitely be a new winner in the elite men’s category, as last year’s winner Simon Jörn Hansen (Denmark) is taking a break from his career. Alongside world champion Domanico, several top athletes are vying to claim Europe’s duathlon crown. These include, among others, world championship silver medallist Silas Plambaek (Denmark), four-time German champion Simon Huckestein, last year’s fastest runner Rick Paffen (Netherlands), and former world championship silver medallist Jens Gossauer (Switzerland).

The women’s field is stronger than ever before. The focus is on the duel between Brunnée and the Dutch triathlon specialist Marlene De Boer. Both competed in the famous Triathlon World Championships in Hawaii. De Boer finished 10th there and is a full-time professional. However, she is competing in her first duathlon in Alsdorf, whilst Brunnée, as a doctor, has to balance her career with sport, but as a five-time world champion, she knows the duathlon sport inside out. Furthermore, the participation of World Championship runner-up Rachel Brown (Great Britain) and former World Championship runner-up Nikola Corbova (Slovakia) promises a thrilling race at the highest level.

But it’s not just the professionals who will provide the excitement. Spectators can look forward to a thrilling race on 12 April from 7.45 am to 3.00 pm around Denkmalplatz in Alsdorf. The start, finish and transition zone are all right next to each other there – and the quick transitions between running and cycling add extra dynamism. Entertainment will be provided by presenters and music, and there are seats available for anyone who needs a break. The Kaufland car park in the centre of Alsdorf offers free parking spaces in the immediate vicinity.

There is also the opportunity for ambitious amateurs and beginners to take part themselves. Registrations for the open races over the middle distance (10 km run, 60 km cycle, 10 km run) and the sprint distance (5 km run, 20 km cycle, 5 km run) are still open until 29 March.
