POWERMAN MALAYSIA 2027

OFFICIAL RACE RULES

2027 Edition | Subject to Final Event Confirmation

Please read these Race Rules carefully before registering for or participating in POWERMAN Malaysia 2027 and any related activities (collectively referred to as the “Event”).

By registering for or participating in the Event, each Participant acknowledges, understands and agrees to comply with these Race Rules, the official Event Terms and Conditions, the Participant Assumption of Risks, Waiver, Release and Indemnity Agreement, the official Race Guide and all applicable technical regulations.

These Race Rules apply to all registered Participants, including Elite, Classic, Short and POWERKIDS categories, where applicable.

Rule 1: Registration Confirmation

Registration for the Event shall be deemed successful only upon fulfilment of the following conditions:

i) Complete and accurate submission of the official online registration form;

ii) Acceptance of the Event Terms and Conditions and execution of the Participant Assumption of Risks, Waiver, Release and Indemnity Agreement;

iii) Full payment of all applicable registration fees and charges; and

iv) Issuance of an official registration confirmation and/or Race Bib number.

Participants are responsible for ensuring that all submitted information is accurate, complete and up to date.

The submission of false, inaccurate or misleading information may result in cancellation of registration or disqualification.

Rule 2: Right of Refusal

POWERMAN Malaysia and the appointed Event Organiser reserve the right to refuse, suspend or cancel any registration where reasonably necessary for participant safety, eligibility verification, regulatory compliance, Event integrity or enforcement of these Race Rules.

Participants who fail to meet the Event’s eligibility requirements or comply with official instructions may be denied participation or disqualified.

Rule 3: Race Bib Ownership and Transfer

Race Bibs are strictly personal and may only be used by the officially registered Participant.

The unauthorised sale, sharing, exchange or transfer of Race Bibs is strictly prohibited.

Participants found using another person’s Race Bib, or allowing another person to use their Race Bib without official authorisation, may be disqualified.

Any official Bib Transfer arrangements for POWERMAN Malaysia 2027 remain subject to confirmation by the appointed Local Organising Committee (LOC).

Rule 4: Race Bib Display and Identification

Participants must wear and clearly display their officially assigned Race Bib throughout the Event in accordance with the official Race Guide.

The Race Bib must be worn on the front of the Participant’s attire and remain clearly visible.

Race Bibs must not be folded, cut, altered, duplicated or used by another individual.

Participants must also correctly display or wear all required identification items, including:

i) Official Participant Wristband;

ii) Race Bib and Timing Chip;

iii) Bicycle Seat Post Sticker;

iv) Helmet Identification Sticker; and

v) Any additional identification required by the Organiser.

Failure to comply may result in penalties, refusal of access to restricted areas or disqualification.

Rule 5: Age Group and Category Eligibility

Participants must compete in the category for which they are officially registered and meet all applicable age and eligibility requirements.

Age-group classification shall be determined according to the official age eligibility reference date published in the Race Guide.

Participants may be required to present a valid Passport, Identity Card or other official identification for verification.

Participants who do not meet the eligibility requirements of their registered category may be reassigned or disqualified in accordance with the applicable regulations.

Rule 6: Non-Drafting Rule

POWERMAN Malaysia is a non-drafting duathlon event.

All Participants must comply with the applicable non-drafting regulations enforced by the appointed Technical Officials.

Drafting Regulations

i) The bicycle drafting zone extends twelve (12) metres from the leading edge of the front wheel of the cyclist ahead.

ii) Participants may enter another cyclist’s drafting zone only when attempting a legal overtaking manoeuvre.

iii) An overtaking manoeuvre must be completed within twenty-five (25) seconds.

iv) A pass is considered complete when the overtaking cyclist’s front wheel passes the leading edge of the front wheel of the cyclist being overtaken.

v) Once overtaken, the cyclist must immediately drop back and clear the drafting zone before attempting another pass.

vi) Participants must ride single file on the left side of the cycling course, except when overtaking or when required for safety.

vii) Side-by-side riding, blocking and other conduct that obstructs another cyclist’s forward progress are prohibited.

Exceptions

Entering another cyclist’s drafting zone without penalty may be permitted when:

• Completing a legal overtaking manoeuvre within twenty-five (25) seconds;

• Required for safety reasons;

• Entering or exiting an aid station or transition area;

• Negotiating a sharp turn; or

• Following instructions from an authorised Event Official.

Penalties

Drafting, blocking and other cycling violations may result in penalties imposed by the appointed Technical Officials.

All penalties shall be enforced in accordance with the applicable technical regulations and official Race Guide.

Rule 7: Compulsory Bicycle Check-In

Bicycle check-in is compulsory for all applicable race categories.

Participants must complete bicycle check-in within the official schedule announced by the Organiser.

All bicycles must be in safe working condition and comply with the applicable technical regulations.

The following requirements shall apply:

i) Bicycles must have functioning brakes and be mechanically safe.

ii) All bicycles must display the official identification sticker provided by the Organiser.

iii) Participants must use their designated bicycle rack according to their assigned Race Bib number.

iv) Only Participants with the required identification may enter the Transition Area.

v) Full bicycle covers are prohibited unless expressly authorised by the Organiser.

vi) Technical Officials may inspect bicycles and equipment for safety compliance.

Participants who fail to complete compulsory bicycle check-in or whose bicycles do not meet safety requirements may be prohibited from participating.

Official bicycle check-in schedules and procedures shall be published in the 2027 Race Guide.

Rule 8: Transition Area Regulations

All Participants must comply with the official Transition Area regulations.

Helmet Regulations

i) Participants must wear an approved, properly fitted and securely fastened cycling helmet.

ii) Helmets must be fastened before removing a bicycle from its rack.

iii) Helmets must remain fastened until the bicycle has been returned to its designated rack after the cycling segment.

iv) Damaged or unsafe helmets may be rejected by Technical Officials.

Mounting and Dismounting

i) Cycling within the Transition Area is strictly prohibited.

ii) Participants must push their bicycles while inside the Transition Area.

iii) Participants may mount their bicycles only after crossing the designated Mount Line.

iv) Participants must dismount before crossing the designated Dismount Line.

Equipment and Conduct

i) Participants must use their assigned bicycle rack and designated transition space.

ii) Equipment must remain within the Participant’s allocated area.

iii) Participants must not obstruct another Participant’s access or interfere with another Participant’s equipment.

iv) Personal markings, chalk, tape or other unauthorised transition markers are prohibited.

v) Glass containers, hazardous items and unauthorised equipment are prohibited.

vi) All handlebar and aero bar ends must be securely plugged.

vii) Outside assistance is prohibited unless expressly authorised by Event Officials.

viii) Participants must follow all instructions issued by Technical Officials and Transition Area personnel.

Only the officially permitted transition bag or storage arrangement specified in the 2027 Race Guide may be used.

Unauthorised equipment or bags may be removed, and violations may result in penalties.

Rule 9: Start Time and Wave Compliance

Participants must start the Event according to their officially assigned category and starting wave.

The Organiser reserves the right to determine or revise starting wave allocations for operational, safety or technical reasons.

Participants must follow the official starting schedule communicated before race day.

Participants who start before their authorised starting wave, enter an incorrect wave or fail to comply with starting procedures may be disqualified.

Late-arriving Participants may be refused permission to start.

Official starting wave arrangements and schedules shall be published in the final Race Guide.

Rule 10: Timing Method and Official Results

The Event shall use an official electronic timing system to record Participant performance.

The following timing methods shall apply, subject to final technical approval:

Net Time (Chip Time)

Net Time shall be used for individual race results and personal performance records.

Net Time is measured from the moment a Participant crosses the official Start Line until the Participant crosses the Finish Line.

Gun Time

Gun Time shall determine official podium rankings and prize-winning positions.

Gun Time is measured from the official start signal for the Participant’s assigned wave until the Participant crosses the Finish Line.

Participants must complete the entire designated course and pass all required timing checkpoints.

Missing timing records, incomplete course distances, incorrect Race Bib usage or violations of Race Rules may result in review or disqualification.

Published results may remain provisional until verification by the Official Timing Team and Technical Officials.

Rule 11: Official Cut-Off Times

Official cut-off times shall be enforced to ensure participant safety and the orderly management of Event operations, including approved road closures.

The following cut-off times apply to POWERMAN Malaysia 2027:

POWERMAN Classic

10 km Run / 60 km Bike / 10 km Run

Maximum Cut-Off Time: 5 Hours 30 Minutes

POWERMAN Short

5 km Run / 30 km Bike / 5 km Run

Maximum Cut-Off Time: 4 Hours 30 Minutes

The Organiser may establish additional intermediate cut-off points along the race course, including a mandatory cycling completion or Transition 2 (T2) cut-off.

The applicable timing reference, intermediate checkpoints and enforcement procedures shall be published in the official Race Guide.

Participants who fail to meet any applicable cut-off time may be instructed to retire and shall be classified as Did Not Finish (DNF).

Event Officials may require Participants who are unlikely to complete the race within the permitted time to stop racing and board an official safety vehicle.

Roads may reopen to public traffic according to the approved traffic management schedule.

Participants must comply immediately with all instructions relating to course closures, traffic management and participant safety.

Rule 12: Littering and Environmental Responsibility

POWERMAN Malaysia enforces strict environmental regulations to protect the race course and surrounding environment.

Littering outside designated disposal areas is strictly prohibited.

Participants must comply with the following requirements:

i) All waste, including gel wrappers, energy bar packaging, bottles and other disposable items, must be discarded only in designated littering zones.

ii) Participants must carry their waste until reaching an authorised disposal area.

iii) Participants must not discard rubbish along the running or cycling course.

iv) Participants must follow all environmental instructions issued by Event Officials.

Littering violations may result in penalties imposed by the appointed Technical Officials.

Rule 13: Prohibited Devices and Equipment

For safety and fair competition, the following devices are prohibited during racing unless expressly authorised by the Organiser or applicable technical regulations.

Audio Devices

• In-ear earphones and earbuds, including wireless earbuds;

• Over-ear and on-ear headphones;

• Bone-conduction headphones;

• Open-ear and ear-clip headphones; and

• Other personal audio devices that may affect awareness of surrounding conditions.

This restriction applies even when only one earbud is used or the audio function is switched off.

Cameras and Recording Devices

• Action cameras;

• Camera-equipped smart glasses;

• Body-mounted or helmet-mounted cameras;

• Handheld recording devices;

• Mobile phones used for photography or filming during racing;

• Selfie sticks; and

• Handheld camera poles or gimbals.

These restrictions apply on the running course, cycling course and within the Transition Area.

Participants must remain alert to instructions from Event Officials, marshals, emergency vehicles and other athletes at all times.

Unauthorised use of prohibited devices may result in penalties or disqualification.

Rule 14: Mandatory Retirement and Medical Instructions

Participants must immediately comply with instructions to stop or retire from the Event issued by an authorised official.

Such instructions may be issued by:

i) Official Medical Personnel;

ii) Event Director;

iii) Race Referee or Technical Official;

iv) Authorised Event Official;

v) Security Personnel; or

vi) Relevant Government Authorities.

Participants may be required to retire due to medical, safety, technical, operational or regulatory concerns.

Any Participant experiencing illness, injury, dizziness, chest discomfort, breathing difficulties or other concerning symptoms should immediately stop racing and seek medical assistance.

Participants who voluntarily withdraw must notify the nearest Event Official so their withdrawal can be recorded.

Failure to comply with mandatory retirement instructions may result in disqualification.

Rule 15: Did Not Finish and Disqualification

Participants who fail to complete the designated race course within the applicable cut-off times, voluntarily withdraw or are required to retire may be classified as Did Not Finish (DNF).

Participants who violate Race Rules, engage in misconduct, use unauthorised equipment or Race Bibs, or gain an unfair competitive advantage may be classified as Disqualified (DSQ).

Participants classified as DNF or DSQ shall not be eligible for official finisher recognition or finisher entitlements unless expressly provided under an official Event policy.

The final classification shall be determined by the authorised Technical Officials and Official Timing Team.

Rule 16: Prizes and Podium Eligibility

Elite athletes and other eligible Participants may receive prizes and/or prize money according to the official Event prize structure.

Prize eligibility is subject to the following requirements:

i) Successful completion of the designated race course;

ii) Compliance with all applicable Race Rules;

iii) Verification of identity, age, nationality, gender and category eligibility, where applicable;

iv) Confirmation of official race results; and

v) Compliance with any additional requirements published by the Organiser.

Prize winners may be required to present their original Passport or Identity Card and Race Bib number for verification.

Where a Participant is disqualified or found ineligible, the official rankings may be revised and prizes awarded to the next eligible finisher.

The official prize structure and eligibility requirements for POWERMAN Malaysia 2027 shall be announced separately.

Rule 17: Protests and Appeals

All protests and appeals relating to race results, category eligibility, penalties or podium positions must be submitted through the official procedures established by the appointed Local Organising Committee (LOC) and Technical Officials.

Protests and appeals must be supported by relevant information or evidence and submitted within the applicable timeframe.

The official appeal procedures, submission deadlines and applicable fees for POWERMAN Malaysia 2027 shall be determined and announced by the appointed LOC in consultation with the Technical Officials.

Technical competition decisions and appeals shall be handled in accordance with the applicable technical regulations.

Rule 18: Finisher Entitlements

Participants who successfully complete their registered race category within the applicable cut-off time and comply with all Race Rules shall be eligible for official finisher entitlements.

Finisher Medal

All eligible finishers, including POWERKIDS, shall receive an Official Finisher Medal.

Finisher T-Shirt

Eligible finishers of the following categories shall receive an Official Finisher T-Shirt:

i) POWERMAN Classic; and

ii) POWERMAN Short.

Finisher T-Shirts are limited to eligible Classic and Short finishers, unless otherwise expressly announced by the Organiser.

Finisher entitlements are subject to verification of race completion and compliance with the applicable Event regulations.

The appointed Local Organising Committee (LOC) shall determine and announce the official collection procedures and any additional requirements before the Event.

Rule 19: Weather, Haze and Event Contingency

POWERMAN Malaysia is an outdoor endurance event and may be affected by changing weather, air quality and environmental conditions.

The Organiser, in consultation with relevant authorities and Technical Officials, may implement necessary changes where conditions present a potential risk to participant safety.

Potential Conditions

These may include:

• Heavy rain or localised flooding;

• Lightning or thunderstorms;

• Extreme heat;

• Strong winds;

• Poor air quality or haze;

• Unsafe road or course conditions; and

• Other environmental or operational hazards.

Possible Event Actions

Depending on the severity of the conditions, the Organiser may:

i) Delay the race start;

ii) Adjust starting wave times;

iii) Temporarily suspend race activities;

iv) Modify or reroute the race course;

v) Shorten one or more race segments;

vi) Implement a reduced race format;

vii) Neutralise or remove an affected race segment;

viii) Stop Participants at designated safety points; or

ix) Cancel the Event or affected race categories where conditions make it unsafe to continue.

Participant Responsibilities

Participants must immediately comply with all instructions issued by Race Officials, marshals, medical personnel and relevant authorities.

Participants must not enter or continue on any closed, suspended or restricted section of the course.

Any changes to the Event shall be communicated through official Event channels where practicable.

The safety of Participants, volunteers, officials and Event personnel shall remain the primary consideration in all Event contingency decisions.

The applicable Event Terms and Conditions shall govern participant rights and the Organiser’s obligations in connection with any modification, postponement, suspension or cancellation, subject to applicable law.

Rule 20: Amendments and Interpretation

POWERMAN Malaysia and the appointed Event Organiser, in consultation with the International POWERMAN Association (IPA) and relevant Technical Officials where applicable, reserve the right to amend these Race Rules where reasonably necessary for participant safety, regulatory compliance, operational requirements or the fair conduct of the Event.

Material amendments shall be communicated through official Event channels as appropriate.

Where any provision conflicts with applicable mandatory laws or binding technical regulations, those laws or regulations shall prevail.

Technical competition decisions shall be determined by the authorised Technical Officials in accordance with applicable regulations and appeal procedures.

Participants are responsible for reviewing the latest Race Rules, Event Terms and Conditions and official Race Guide before participating in the Event.
